Tony Greenwood

Hi, I'm Tony Greenwood, Woodland Trust Volunteer. I do a variety of roles with the Woodland Trust; History Conservation Research, Event Photographer, Patroller and Walking Guide. I live just opposite the Smithills Woods and so am out in the woods most days, usually walking Luna our rescue Saluki dog, who is often recognised out on Burnt Edge and Coal Pit Road.

I have lived here since 1997, bringing up my family in this lovely area, which I have explored from end to end and taking lots and lots of Photographs.

During lockdown this year, before it difficult for my family, my wife and I would would take our daily exercise and dog walk by walking through the fields of the farms around here and occasionally doing a longer walk onto the unusually quiet moors. The spring flowers, birdlife and emerging butterflies were wonderful during this time. My camera went everywhere. It was wonderful to have the Heron family return to the woods and nest in the same spot, just where I can see them through the leafless trees. We watched and photographed the pair of hatchling Herons up until they left the nest. We still see them flying over the woods, and often feeding in the river.

I also added to the portfolio by taking a series of photos for inclusion in the Woodland Trust Guided Walk leaflets. My History Walk is the first to be published, with all my own Photos and words!

Also during lockdown, I worked hard on the technical side of photography, increasing my software processing skills. Still more work to do on that!
